All News Daily Roundup. Album Reviews Song Reviews. Oct 05, Yi Ly rated it it was amazing. Sencillamente, siempre es un placer leer a Patrick.

Aug 23, Lukas Lovas rated it it was amazing. It suited me much more than the Slow regard of silent things did, and it was much more Name of the Wind-like, I guess.

Jan 15, Matt S rated it really liked it Shelves: Nice to get a taste of the Kingkiller Chronicles again. Read as part of the Rogues anthology and my favourite of that collection.

This is a day in the life of Bast. It contains elements of trickery, tomfoolery and we get to discover a fair bit about Kvothe's apprentice.

I'd suggest reading the main novels first to get more from this story. Without the context, I'd wager it's not quite as interesting some between-the-lines info as well , but still likely a good read thanks to the prose.

There has Nice to get a taste of the Kingkiller Chronicles again. There has always been a secret, more-than-meets-the-eye feeling about Bast and this definitely satisfied that itch.

May 30, Rachel Humphrey rated it it was amazing Shelves: I am hoping Patrick includes a journey to Bast's homeland in the third. This novella reveals more how Bast has instinctive magics and a differing moral code than humans.

His base instincts rule his behavior similar to Felurian but he could easily kill if he felt it was needed without any remorse, similar to Cthaeh.

Bast also performs some form of sympathy that is different than any sympathy shown previously. This novel also further explains and shows how Bast's tw Baaaast This novel also further explains and shows how Bast's two magical instincts, glammourie and grammarie, work in conjunction while he is in the human world.

Made me really think about Bast's motivations towards Kvothe. No tiene personajes importantes, salvo Bast, ni ocurre nada importante. Oct 03, Matt Davenport rated it really liked it Shelves: An excellent short story for those who read The Name of the Wind, just about one of the characters, Bast, and what he does on a normal day when the story isn't being told.

Bast is a very compelling character, and his motives or own morality are semi-ambiguous in the main story, so this story gives an interesting look into his world and his views.

I love this world and I love Rothfuss, so I enjoyed it. Even if you had no context it would probably be an interesting, if confusing at times, read.

Aug 10, Kane Mason rated it it was amazing. I listened to the audiobook version of this as part of the "Rogues" novella and short story collection and found it to be wonderfully Cheeky; rich with descriptions that quickly ignite the imagination, and be filled with intriguing characters.

In short, I found it to be a superb little day-in-the-life tale. Apr 06, Christian rated it it was amazing. Beautifully written and full of little details.

Feb 07, Calvinist Batman rated it it was amazing. Arguably my favorite thing Rothfuss has written. Second maybe only to The Name of the Wind.

Pretty sure this is a slight prequel. Good and a must read if you're into his KingKiller series. Sep 26, Sean Lynch rated it it was amazing.

Read this way too fast to fully enjoy it. Gotta read again shortly to fully digest. May 26, Kylie rated it it was ok.

My first two star-read of And I'm not even mad about it. I considered this 58 pointless pages that I did not find enjoyable in the least. Doesn't take away anything from the world for me, which is nice.

Maybe it should be lower than 2 stars, but I'm feeling generous. Mar 20, Devon Bowser rated it really liked it Shelves: It was nice to return to the world of The Kingkiller Chronicals and to get a small insight into Bast's character.

Estaban cargadas y deshilachadas en su deseo. Jun 29, Amber rated it it was amazing Shelves: Breezier unsurprisingly--it is a short story [although it's only a few hundred words shy of being a novella] than the first two books of the Kingkiller Chronicle and The Slow Regard of Silent Things.

Length notwithstanding, the breeziness wasn't a surprise. Because, you know, Bast. It was always evident that Bast had a strict, unusual moral code.

I enjoyed a deeper explo Breezier unsurprisingly--it is a short story [although it's only a few hundred words shy of being a novella] than the first two books of the Kingkiller Chronicle and The Slow Regard of Silent Things.

Jun 16, Emily Rios rated it it was amazing. Simplemente disfrute nuevamente de la forma de escribir de Patrick como siempre. Sep 14, TL rated it it was amazing.

I would follow him around any day. Una historia interesante y entretenida, un cuento bonito, muy bien escrito, sobre uno de los personajes de El nombre del viento.

Feb 12, Andreia rated it liked it. A short-story for the fans of The Kingkiller Chronicle. It wouldn't survive on its own, even if it fed on Bast's quirkiness.

However, it is pretty essential for those who care for Bast as much as I do and who want to know more about him. Don't expect much though: One day can't tell you everything about a person and Bast isn't even a person.

Es una historia bastante entretenida. Oct 03, Ariponcia rated it it was amazing. Sep 24, Ris rated it it was amazing.

LOVED this story and found it to be very intriguing and fun. Love everything Pat comes up with but this story was pure FUN. Great stuff, Pat, keep it up!

There are no discussion topics on this book yet. It all began when Pat Rothfuss was born to a marvelous set of parents.

Throughout his formative years they encouraged him to do his best, gave him good advice, and were no doubt appropriately dismayed when he failed to live up to his full potential.

In high-school Pat was something of a class clown. His hobbies included reading a novel or two a day and giving relationship advice to all his friends It all began when Pat Rothfuss was born to a marvelous set of parents.

His hobbies included reading a novel or two a day and giving relationship advice to all his friends despite the fact that he had never so much as kissed a girl.

He also role-played and wrote terrible stories about elves. He was pretty much a geek. In he started college in order to pursue a career in chemical engineering, then he considered clinical psychology.

If the plate receives a mixture of positive and negative charges as, for example, from an induction coil , a mixed figure results, consisting of a large red central nucleus, corresponding to the negative charge, surrounded by yellow rays, corresponding to the positive charge.

The difference between positive and negative figures seems to depend on the presence of air ; for the difference tends to disappear when the experiment is conducted in vacuum.

Riess a 19th-century researcher theorized that the negative electrification of the plate was caused by the friction of the water vapour, etc.

This electrification would favor the spread of a positive, but hinder that of a negative discharge. It is now known that electrical charges are transferred to the insulator's surface through small spark discharges that occur along the boundary between the gas and insulator surface.

The shapes of the resulting charge distributions reflect the shape of the spark discharges which, in turn, depend on the high voltage polarity and pressure of the gas.

Using a higher applied voltage will generate larger diameter and more branched figures. It is now known that positive Lichtenberg figures have longer, branching structures because long sparks within air can more easily form and propagate from positively charged high voltage terminals.

This property has been used to measure the transient voltage polarity and magnitude of lightning surges on electrical power lines. Another type of 2D Lichtenberg figure can be created when an insulating surface becomes contaminated with semiconducting material.

When a high voltage is applied across the surface, leakage currents may cause localized heating and progressive degradation and charring of the underlying material.

Over time, branching, tree-like carbonized patterns are formed upon the surface of the insulator called electrical trees. This degradation process is called tracking.

If the conductive paths ultimately bridge the insulating space, the result is catastrophic failure of the insulating material. Some artists purposely apply salt water to the surface of wood or cardboard and then apply a high voltage across the surface to generate complex carbonized 2D Lichtenberg figures on the surface.

The branching, self-similar patterns observed in Lichtenberg figures exhibit fractal properties. Lichtenberg figures often develop during the dielectric breakdown of solids, liquids, and even gases.

Their appearance and growth appear to be related to a process called diffusion-limited aggregation DLA. A useful macroscopic model that combines an electric field with DLA was developed by Niemeyer, Pietronero, and Weismann in , and is known as the dielectric breakdown model DBM.

Although the electrical breakdown mechanisms of air and PMMA plastic are considerably different, the branching discharges turn out to be related.

So, it should not be surprising that the branching forms taken by natural lightning also have fractal characteristics.

Lichtenberg figures may also appear on the skin of lightning strike victims. These are reddish, fernlike patterns that may persist for hours or days.

They are also a useful indicator for medical examiners when determining the cause of death. Lichtenberg figures appearing on people are sometimes called lightning flowers , and they are thought to be caused by the rupture of capillaries under the skin due to the passage of the lightning current or the shock wave from the lightning discharge as it flashes over the skin.

A lightning strike can also create a large Lichtenberg figure in grass surrounding the point struck. These are sometimes found on golf courses or in grassy meadows.
